POYNTER, RONALD LYNN - age 59, of Lake City, passed away at home on Tuesday June 11, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. He loved life and enjoyed living each day to the fullest. Preceded in death by father, Orville Earl Poynter. Survivors: loving wife of 35 years, Brenda Duncan Poynter, two sons, Ronald Poynter Jr. and wife, Linda of LaFollette, and Derek Poynter of Lake City; daughter, Stacey Mysinger and husband, Mike of Knoxville, one granddaughter' Shayla Poynter of LaFollette; mother, Mary Pollard and husband, L.C. of Knoxville; brother, Stanley Poynter of Lake City; special sisters-in-law, Phyllis Johnson and husband, George of Clinton, Peggy Duncan and husband, Lee Holman of Stockbridge, Ga., and Jennie Poynter of Knoxville; brothers-in-law, Ray Duncan of Lake City, Benny Joe (Pete) Duncan and wife, Kay of Indianapolis, Ind., Jerry Duncan and wife, Lois Hartwell of Georgia, and niece and nine nephews. Retired from he U.S. Postal Service with 37 years of service. He retired while Postmaster at Robbins, Tenn. A former businessman of Lake City, whom owned and operated R&R Sporting Goods for 11 years. He was a member and held all of the offices of the Lake City Jaycee's. He was honored with lifetime memberships into the U.S. Volunteer Corp. And J.C.I. Senators. He was a member and held all of the offices of the V.F.W. Served four years in the U.S.A.F. A graduate of Young High School in 1961. He coached Little League Grasshopper Football for Lake City for seven years, and coached several teams to championships. Hobbies include flowers, yard work, fishing, hunting, traveling, and UT Football. Special thanks to Dr. Jerry Foster, the nurses on the 8th north floor at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital, Covenant Hospice nurses, and to many special friends that have meant so much. He was a great husband, father, son, and friend; he will be truly missed by all. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Holly-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City, with the funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. Graveside services will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Friday, June 14, at 11:00 a.m. in Knoxville, Rev. Justin Phillips and Rev. Tom Ballad officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Rd., Knoxville, TN 37909, Covenant Hospice, 700 S. Illinois Ave., Suite A202, Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, of Lake City.
