He was retired Maintenance Supervisor at McGhee Tyson Airport. Preceded in death by his parents, Ray Hurst and Nina Creech; grandson, Cayliss Lovin; brother, Johnny Hurst; and grandparents, Pleas and Flora Hurst. Survivors include his son, Kenny Hurst Jr.; daughter, Melissa Hurst Lindsey; son, Chris Lovin; daughter in law, Tracy Hurst; son in law, Tony Lindsey; grandchildren, Kendra and Will Murrell, Jackie Hurst, Kenny Hurst III, Bobby Shields III, Geena Hurst, Stephanie Hurst, and McKenzie Hurst; great grand-daughter, Macy Murrell; brother, Jerry Hurst; uncle, Jerry “Boots” Hurst; several cousins, Sunny and Florence Hurst, Sandy and Jim Radle, Cheryl and Steve Phillips, Gary and Linda Compton; several other cousins and family members, several close friends including Darlene Woody, Bill Wallace, Sylvia Shields, Roy Roberts, Becky and Joe Reagan, Steve Johnson and Don Jones. Funeral service will be held 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Kenneth Carpenter officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery for the interment service. Blount County Sheriff James Berrong announced today that the Blount County Grand Jury has indicted a 21-year-old Maryville man on first degree murder charges in connection with the murder of Kenneth Ray Hurst, Sr.
Gary Lee Collins, 21, Ridge Road, Maryville, is being held at the Blount County Jail on bonds totaling $1,050,000 pending a hearing in Blount County Circuit Court on Friday. The Blount County Grand Jury indicted Collins today on first degree murder during the commission of a burglary, robbery, and theft. He was also indicted on one count of especially aggravated burglary, one count of especially aggravated robbery, and theft over $1,000.
Additional details of the case cannot be released due to the ongoing investigation.
Kenneth Ray Hurst, Sr. 63, Callahan Road, Louisville, was found dead in his residence on Callahan Road on January 27. An autopsy revealed that Hurst died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
