Hatcher observes 90th birthday
Ruth Whitehead Hatcher, of Maryville, celebrated her 90th birthday Oct. 4 with a family get-together and meal at her home.
Mrs. Hatcher was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Townsend, to the late Tom and Mary Whitehead. She was married to the late Clarence Hatcher.
Her family includes children Carol Ellis, Irma Irwin, Kathy Holloway and Robin Moore, all of Maryville, Lois Odell, of Madisonville, Gary Hatcher, of Harker Heights, Texas, and the late Clyde Hatcher. She has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hatcher is a homemaker.
She is a 54-year member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church and attends Friendship Sunday school class.

Virgie Ruth Whitehead Hatcher, ago 90, went to be with her Lord, Monday, June 16, 2009. She was a member of Madison Ave. Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Clarence; son, Clyde; son-in-law, Dexter Irwin; parents, Tom and Mary Whitehead; several brothers and sisters. Survived by daughters and son-in-laws, Carol Ellis, Irma Irwin, Kathy Holloway, and Robin and Jerry Moore, all of Maryville, and Lois and J.C. O’Dell of Madisonville; son, Gary and wife Sun of Kileen, Texas; grandchildren, Angela and Joe Wade, Johnny and Andrea Ellis, Dale Potter, Debbie & Bill Jenkins, Jason Irwin, David & Jack O’Dell, and Daniel and Charity Hatcher; great grandchildren, Matthew and Marinda Ellis, Amanda Potter, Kelsey Jenkins, Tracey, Charlie and Thomas Hatcher; brother, Earnest Whitehead of Shelbyville, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009 in the Smith West Chapel with Rev. Glen Grubb and Rev. Mark Grubb officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Clark’s Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Madison Ave. Baptist Church Building Fund, 1918 Madison Avenue, Maryville, TN 37804. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 983-1000.
