Edwin H. Johnson Jr., 79, of Topside Road, formerly of Holden, Mass., who was active in Masonic organizations, died Sunday in Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville.
He leaves his wife, Estle (Kerley) Johnson; a son, Edwin H. Johnson III of Knoxville; two daughters, Mary Ann Broady of Knoxville and Judith Bryan of Midland, Mich.; four brothers, Andrew G. and Robert V. Johnson, both of Holden, Elden R. Johnson of Johannesburg, Mich., and Philip G. Johnson of Ilion, N.Y.; four sisters, Lillian E. Erickson of Falmouth, Mass., Mae Burgoyne of East Harwich, Mass., Nancy O'Connor of Holden and Janice Johnson of Worcester, Mass.; and six grandchildren. He was born in Holden, son of Edwin H. and Elvira (Nelson) Johnson, and lived there many years before moving here several years ago. He graduated from Holden High School in 1934.
Mr. Johnson worked at Robertshaw Controls Co. here for many years before he retired. He previously worked for Reed Rolled Thread Co. in Holden and Wright Line Co. in Worcester.
Mr. Johnson was a charter member of Lake Hills Presbyterian Church. He was a member and past master of Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland, Mass., and a member of Wachusett Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Holden. He was a member of Knights Templar, Cyprus Commandery, Pride Council 103, and Royal Arch Mason Chapter, all in Maryville.
Funeral services will be held today at Lakes Hills Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Hills Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 3805 Maloney Road, Knoxville, Tenn. 37920; or to another charity. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, is directing local arrangements.
