Homer Roberts, world traveler, took his final trip on Friday, January 2, 2015, departing Kindred Fairpark Healthcare at 1:21 p.m. Homer loved his travels and adventures. His favorite destinations were North, Central and South America; he successfully visited all countries in each. He made friends with many people along the way such as Pope and family in Trinidad, Carlos of Argentina and John and Maria in Costa Rica. His first trip was taken with brothers Hugh and Roy through Europe in 1967. His last international trip was taken in 2008 with best friend and traveling partner Mike Meares to Guyana, Suriname and French Guyana. Homer was preceded in death by his loving wife Cleo, beloved son, Gary, mother and father Laura and John Roberts, sisters Lenna Mayes, Leonna Jenkins, Alma Suttles, Wilma Helton, Jean Tarwater, Anna Ruth Wilburn, Brothers Reece, Roy and Hugh.
Survivors are daughters Judy Lynn Cox Monroe (Tommie), Christine Owens Martin, Grandchildren Robert Stephen Cox, Kristin Cox Whelahan (Shawn) and Robbin Kimberly Monroe Campbell, Great Grandchildren Ian Joseph Whelahan, Ashley Nicole McCarter and Isabella Beets, Sister Faye Wilson (Edward), Brother-in-Law Bill Dishner (Peggy) of Long Island, N.Y., numerous nieces and nephews. Extended family Mike, Laura, Caitlin, Maggie, Samuel Meares and Megan Webb, Rom, Tutik, Jennifer, Price, Chun-Chun and John Meares, Meera and Jim Battles.
Receiving of friends will take place on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with internment at Grandview Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Kindred Fairpark for the loving care extended to Homer during the last ten months.
