SUMMEY, JOHN WILLIAM - age 83 of Vonore, passed away 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at his home. Oldest living member of Howards Chapel Baptist Church. Retired Monroe County farmer and carpenter, also retired as a Monroe County school bus driver. Veteran of World War II, proudly served his country in the U. S. Army for four years, for which he received the Bronze Star Medal. Son of the late Doak and Grace Summey. Preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Lou Isabelle Duncan Summey, and mother of eight children wife of 29 years, Gladys French Summey, and mother of two children, one granddaughter, and brothers Cecil Summey and Doak Summey, Jr. Survivors: wife of fourteen months, Katherine Baker Summey daughters and sons-in-law, Louise & Larry Green, Etowah, Betty & Jerald Gardner, Maryville, Shirley & Barry Green, Maryville, Margaret & Gerald Warren, Knoxville sons & daughters-in-law, Ronnie Summey, Greenback, Carl & D'Nell Summey, Cookeville, Jerry & Becky Summey, Maryville, Darrell & Stacey Summey, Clinton 12 grandchildren 2 great-grandchildren brothers & sisters-in-law, Floyd & Mary Ann Summey, Madisonville, Rev. Elmer & Virginia Summey, Loudon, Winfred (Pat) & Gail Summey, Greenback, Mrs. Cecil (Shirley) Summey, Mrs. Doak (Frankie) Summey, Jr., both of Vonore sisters, Gradie Summey Duncan Weaver, Farmland, IN, Gertie Summey Tallent, Vonore several nieces & nephews stepdaughters & husbands, Lisa & Damon Gibson, Maryville, Marlene & Bert Haynes, Friendsville stepson & wife, Dan & Sue French, Melbourne, FL 8 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Howards Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. Alvin Patton, Rev. Buford Albright, Rev. Sam Boone officiating. Interment church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
