Ramsey, 62, of Newport, went to be with his Lord Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He was employed by Sonoco for 32 years before his retirement and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. His parents, Sherman and Susan Frazier Ramsey, brother, John Ramsey, and father-in-law, George Messer preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Christine Ramsey; sisters, Allie Ealy, of Newport, Hattie Reed and her husband, Kenneth, of Parrottsville, and Sherline Burnett and her husband, Bobby, of Newport; brother, Charles Ramsey, of Newport; and mother-in-law, Janie Messer, of Del Rio. Mr. Ramsey will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral service was Saturday, April 5, 2003, at 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Ball officiating. Graveside service will be Sunday, April 6, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Union Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday evening, April 5, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service at Brown Funeral Home.
