GODDARD, HAZEL RUTH SPARKS - age 98 of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 30, 2009. She was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church, where she was very active for many years. She had a loving spirit that touched the heart of everyone with whom she came in contact. She was preceded in death by parents, John Bentley Sparks and Ollie Jane McClure Sparks; husbands, Thomas Harold Rogers and John Thomas Goddard; son, William Joseph Rogers; grandson, Stephen Rogers May; brothers, Earl Allen Sparks and Robert McClure Sparks; and sister, Helen Louise Leming. She is survived by daughter, Phyllis Rogers May and husband Jack of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Thomas Rogers and wife Pat of Bluffon, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Rogers of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kimra Anne Payne and Harold Allen Rogers of Knoxville, Mark Thomas Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia; 5 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 4 nephews and 3 nieces. Special thanks to Heritage Assisted Living in Fountain City and to Amedysis Hospice Services for their loving care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Salem Methodist Church, 2417 Tipton Station Road, Knoxville, TN 37920. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Sunday with a funeral service to follow in the chapel at Berry Funeral Home, Rev. Helen Shaw officiating.
