RHODES, MARY ETTA (MCCONKEY) - age 89, of Sweetwater passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Sweetwater Nursing Center. She was a former employee of Wood Presbyterian Nursing Home and Sweetwater Valley Convalescent Home and retired after 17 years of service. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years: Rex Rhodes Sr., infant son: Charles Wesley Rhodes, parents: John W. and Jessie McConkey, sister: Lucille Gray, brothers: Earl, Lloyd, Joe, Homer, and L.C. McConkey. Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law: Janette and W.E. Sloan, Sweetwater, Tonya and Ben Walden, Charleston, S.C.; sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Phyllis Rhodes, Rex Rhodes Jr. and Adrianne, all of Sweetwater; grandchildren: Tim and Teresa Rhodes, FL, Mark and Teresa Rhodes, Sweetwater, Daphne and Steve Hamm, Sweetwater, Mindee Forrester, Knoxville, Michelle and Malachi Blomstrom, Charleston, S.C., and Rusty Walden, Charleston, S.C.; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Amber Plemons, Sweetwater, Tristan and Jacob Forrester, Knoxville, Ben Rhodes, FL., Ashley and Daniel Lamb, FL., Maliah Noelle Blomstrom, Charleston, S.C., and Aliyah Faith Walden, Erin, TN; sisters-in-law: Emma McConkey, Knoxville, Minnie McConkey, Sweetwater, Dorthy Wheeler, Oliver Springs, TN.; special niece: Evelyn McConkey, Sweetwater; several other nieces and nephews. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday form 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 A.M. on Thursday at the Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park for a 10:00 A.M. graveside service and interment with Rev.
