Brenda Gale Evans, age 56, of Newport, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. She had been a substitute teacher for several years before her illness and was an avid gardener and bird watcher. Brenda was keenly interested in her ancestry and in preserving the old ways of doing things. Most of all, she was a devoted and beloved wife, mother and grandmother and will be sorely missed by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Roy and Ruby Cureton; in-laws, James (Wormy) and Audrey Evans; special aunt, Bertie Cureton; brother and sister-in-law, James and Betty Cureton; sister and kindred spirit, Sara Lee Ciocco; brother-in-law, Joseph Evans, sister-in-law, Kay Evans and nephew, Richard Evans. She is survived by her loving husband, James (Rod) Evans; daughters, Grace and Zoe; and grandsons, Grayson and Patton. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary ((Wayne) Keller; Ida (Dane) Baxter and Judy (John) Harrison; brothers, Tony (Janice) Cureton, Alton (Tammy) Cureton and Preston (Kay) Cureton; brother-in-law, Rick (Rhonda) Evans; and special friend, Cathy Couick. Her family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice and to her friends and neighbors who were so kind and thoughtful during her illness.
