(April 17, 1931 - February 4, 2009) Melba Georgia Phillips, age 77, passed away, Wednesday February 4, 2009, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Phillips; parents, Walter and Maude Hopkins brother, O. C. Hopkins; sisters, Reva Palmer, Ruby McMahan, Ruey Hopkins, and Gona Tokar; niece, Peggy Carver. She is survived by her son, Walter (Jr.) Phillips; daughters, Carole Cody, Chris Barrington (Bobby), of Newport; grandchildren, Kim McCoig (Dustin Ottinger), Chelsea Phillips, Travis and Renee Barnes, Brennan Ottinger; great grandson, the light of her eyes, Camden Ottinger; special family members, Lisa Williamson (Roger), Brian Carver (Leann), Shea Styles (Chad), Judi Chobanian, Elaine Hopkins, Phyllis Hopkins, , Mandie, Whitney and Paige Hannah, Skylar Hall, Lori Sizemore (Farmer) and Donald Carver, all of Newport, Johnny Phillips, of Chicago; and other nieces and nephews from out of state; special friends, Reddie Curbow, Brenda Stewart, Kenny and Becky Fancher, Harvey and Pat Brown, Darrell, Dawn and Jessie Williams, Irene Gilliand, Kathy Rogers, Nicole Hawk and Joy Bryant She was Granny to all that knew her. We were all truly blessed to have her in our lives. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, February 7, 2009 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Scott Gorrell officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Friday, February 6, 2009 at Manes Funeral Home. Manes Funeral Home in charge.
