Morton, Ben G. age 87 of Blount County passed away Friday June 13th 2003 following a lengthy
illness. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Maryville.
He is preceded in death by father James M. Morton, mother Inez Morton Lambert, brothers Eldra
Morton, and James Morton, sisters Nora Miller and Marie Farley.
A native of Blount County, he enjoyed a 40+ year career with the Aluminum Company of
America as a skilled machinist and foreman. He was a WWII veteran with the 787th Battalion
MP, member of the Rockford Masonic Lodge #469 F & AM and the Alcoa 25 year service club.
An accomplished mechanic, he specialized in gasoline engines and t v repair. He achieved
certified pilot status and was active for over twenty years as a top driver with the Knoxville
precision boating team, “The Flying Boatman”, including stints as commodore. He was an active
and productive gardner from his youth days at Carpenters Campground throughout retirement.
During retirement, he enjoyed traveling all 50 states and serving the Plant City, Florida
Strawberry Festival. He was dependable to the very end. A Marvelously talented, entertaining,
and caring man, to be sorely missed by his wife of 60 + years Ruth Y. Morton, daughter and son
in law Joyce Morton Wiggins and Bob Wiggins. Granddaughter and spouse Kim and Rex
Matlock, great grandchildren Cassidy and Keagan Matlock, special nephews Steve and Chris
Early, and brother Dale Lambert.
The funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m. Monday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. George Macht officiating. A masonic graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m.
Tuesday at Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.
Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
