Spangler, Thomas Gerald –age 73, of South Knoxville, passed away on Monday, October 03, 2005 at Baptist Hospital. Gerald was a 1950 graduate of Young High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Marines and was a veteran of the Korean War. After returning from the war, he became an employee of South Central Bell where he worked until 1972. Gerald attended Southside Baptist Church. Preceded in death by wife, Margie Spangler; parents, Bryant and Lora Spangler; sisters, Estlena Bruce and Leola Norton; brothers, Ed, Albert, Robert, and Leon Spangler.
Survivors
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Janet Spangler; granddaughters, Allison and Ashley Spangler; sisters, Elzora Thompson and Bea Whitted; brother, David Spangler; special sister-in-law, Imogene Spangler; several nieces and nephews.
Service
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 8 PM, Rev. Clarence Gresham officiating. Family and friends will meet on Friday at 12:15 PM at Berry Funeral Home and will proceed in procession to Highland South Cemetery for a 1 PM entombment service. Pallbearers will be Steve Spangler, Mike Spangler, Kenny Whitted, Ricky Whitted, Robbie Thompson and Jerry Hooper. Full military honors will be provided by the Volunteer State Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 1620 W. Governor John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920.
