HOLLEY,OTTIS DEAN ESTELLA MARIE COLEMAN - eternal life on the morning of Tuesday, October 30, 2007. Ottis Dean, as she was affectionately known, was born in Newport, Tennessee to the late Samuel Henry and Estella Payne Coleman. She was the second of four children, all of whom preceded her in death. She was the oldest surviving descendant of Isaac and Charlotte Dockery. Ottis Dean moved with her parents to Jefferson City, TN when she was nine years old and remained there as a resident for her entire life. She received her education at Nelson Merry School in Jefferson City, TN; Tennessee State Agricultural and Industrial University in Nashville, TN; and Howard University in Washington, D.C. She taught for many years at Nelson Merry School and retired from teaching at Rush Strong Elementary School in Straw Plains, TN. At an early age she joined Boyds Chapel United Methodist Church and remained a devoted member for the duration of her life. During this time, she served in many positions to include the church treasurer, which se loved. She also held memberships in the United Methodist Women; Keenagers, the Jefferson City Senior Citizen Group, The Retired Teachers Association of Tennessee and a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Ottis Dean enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. She was very appreciative of all things and saw beauty in everything. She leaves to cherish and honor her memory two sons, John Samuel Bridgeforth of Knoxville, TN and James Leon Holley, Jr. of Jefferson City, TN; a devoted daughter-in-law, Alverrene Bridgeforth of Knoxville, TN; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a special cousin, Carolyn Crawford White; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to include the Dockery, Burden, Brabson, McMahan, Glichrist and Garrett Families. The family sincerely thanks the Chandler House assisted living administrators and staff for their love, support and care given to Mrs. Holley; Dr. John Zirkle and his staff for their years of care and concern to Mrs. Holley; and the Smokey Mountain Home Health and Hospice of Morristown, TN for their love, support and care provided to Mrs. Holley. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Eugene E. Peck Scholarship Fund at Boyds Chapel United Methodist Church, Jefferson City, TN. Funeral service will be Saturday November 3, 2007 at 12 noon at Boyd's Chapel Methodist Church in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Ottis Dean will lie in state from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Interment will be at the Jefferson Memory Gardens following the funeral service. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Dockery Funeral Home, Inc., Morristown, Tennessee.
