Cocke County Native graduates from Medical school
Thomas (Tommy) Sutton, son of Lowell and Sheila Sutton, both of Newport, graduated from Medical School at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis on May 25, 2007, receiving his M.D. degree.
During that time, his cumulative GPA was 3.67 and he was an active member of the Phi Chi Medical Fraternity. He was also involved in volunteer work for the Mid-South Regional Brain Tumor Center.
He received all of his early education in Cocke County, attending Bridgeport Elementary School beginning in 1985. After finishing there Sutton attended Cocke County High School where he was one of seven valedictorians in the class of 1998. He went to Walter State Community College for two years and then transferred to The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, graduating in 2002 with High Honors.
Sutton is currently an Anesthesia Resident at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. Anesthesia is a broad field of medicine encompassing not only the administration of Surgical Anesthesia, but also Critical Care Medicine and Pain Management. He resides just south of Charlottesville with his family.
