MAPLES, JAMES STANLEY (POP) - age 79 of Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord at his home, Sunday, January 8, 2006. He was of the Baptist faith and Member of Hillside Missionary Baptist Church. James was born June 18, 1926 and was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was employed at Foote Mineral Company for 18 years and then retired from Southern Armature Works, Inc. after 26 years of service. James (Pop) was a faithful worker for the University of Tennessee Athletic Department at Neyland Stadium since 1939, ushering for the last 30 years. He enjoyed many sports and wood working. He was a loving husband and father of nine children. He was preceded in death by: his parents, William Pink and Grace Elizabeth Maner Maples three brothers and one sister and son-in-law, Bob Ball. He is survived by: the love of his life of 60 years, Helen (Gert) Maples daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah (Cookie) and Vance Harmon, Jr., Sharon (Bit) Ball, Karen (Tiny) and Dink Ray sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond (Butch) and Jean, Jerry and Geraldine, Terry and Tracy, Bill and girlfriend Brenda Phillips, Andrew (Sparky) and Betty, Larry and Melissa Maples family adopted son, Carl George Dunlap, Jr. (Butch) brothers and sisters-in-law, Hubert and Geraldine Holloway, Frank Shelton, Jr. grandchildren, Susan Jacobs and husband Tracy, Amy Jo Maples, James (Jimmy) Harmon and wife Wynette, Joy Whited and husband Paul, Terry Maples II and wife Heather, Nicholas Maples, Josh Walker and wife Brandie, Billy Maples and wife Nicole, Jeffery Maples, Tina Monholland and husband James, Christy Lynch and husband Josh, Dorene Maples, Buddy Ray, James (Scooter) Ray, Jessica Ball, Kaylin Maples and granddaughter to be born in June great grandchildren, Wendy Harmon, Kelsey and Bailey Whited, Noah and Megan Walker, Mallory Maples and Riddick Maples aunt, Ann Parton several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Guy Smoak, IV, and nursing staff of 6 East and 8 East of UT Medical Center. Service, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Bearden Gospel Baptist Church, 5719 Walden Drive, Rev. Fred Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Military Honors by 278th. ACR. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Arrangements by Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, (865)922-9195.
