LAFON, REV. BAYNARD ODELL - age 71, of Townsend, died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2000 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a retired minister of the United Methodist Church serving as a conference member, serving churches in Southeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia for the last 35 years. Preceded in death by parents, Bayard & Dollie Lafon. Survivors: wife of 51 years, Mary Lafon; son and daughter-in-law, Steve & Pat Lafon of Greenback; daughter and son-in-law, Jean & Jerry Sullivanof Townsend; grandsons, Jerry Sullivan II, John, Jeffrey, Joseph Sullivan, Nick & Matt Lafon; brother, Otis Lafon of Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Dixie & Barry Albert of Virginia; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2000 at Smith Mortuary with Rev. Rick Clowers and Rev. Jerry Russell officiating. Interment will follow the service in Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 7332 Old Tuckaleechee Rd., Townsend, TN 37882. Family will receive friends 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2000, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 983-1000.
