- Hannah Duston, who, having been captured and carried away by the Indians, her
infant child murdered before her eyes, rose in the night time, and by the
assistance of her nurse, Mary (Corliss) Neff, who had been made captive at the
same time, and a small captive boy, named Samuel Leonardson, slew ten of her
captors, and having scalped them, made her escape down the Merrimac to her home
in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
