James L. Osment, 78 of Monroe died at 2:52 p.m. Tuesday at the Arbor Hospice; he had been in poor health since March.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. He will lie instate at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Michaels Catholic Church with the Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. Rev. Stephen Vileo, pastor will officiate with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The VFW Post 1138 Monroe will provide military honors.
Born May 7, 1934 in Cleveland, Tennessee, he was the son of Charles Spurgeon and Annie Marie (Owen) Osment. He married Darlene Rostash on October 12, 1957 at St. Michael Catholic Church.
Jim was employed by the Ford Motor Company as a general foreman in quality control for 38 years. He retired in 1991 from the Woodhaven Stamping Plant.
He served his country during the Korean War in the U. S. Navy from August 6, 1952 to July 26, 1956. He was a Petty Officer 2nd Class and served on seven aircraft carriers.
Jim was a 1952 graduate of Monroe High School, and a graduate of the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a major in Industrial Management. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, and the Ushers Club; a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138 Monroe; Frenchtown Senior Citizens Center; Monroe Senior Golf League, and the Ford Retirees Golf League.
Surviving are his wife Darlene, sons, James Lawrence (Renee S.) Osment, Jr., Gregory Thomas (Anne L.) Osment and Jeffrey Scott (Annamarie) Osment all of Monroe; grandchildren, Christopher J. (Deanna) Osment, Tyler S. (Tina) Osment, Natalie R. Osment, Chelsea M. Osment, Charles G. Osment, Caitlin E. Osment, Jeffrey J. Osment and Olivia N. Osment, and great grandchildren Elsa Osment and Corra Osment.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Joyce, Charles, Mel, Hilda, June and Merle Osment, and sister-in-law Carolyn Lavoy.
