BLAZIER, JAMES WILLIAM - 81, of Knoxville, died Mon. morning, May 31, 1999 at his home. He was a great contributor to The Grace Community Church by managing their audio program for over twenty years. After retirement from Alcoa with 40 years of service, Mr. Blazier was an active member of The Senior Citizens Photography Club. An example of his work is on display at The John T. O'Connor Senior Center. Mr. Blazier's family has a long history in Tennessee. As a member of The First Families of Tennessee, his ancestors have owned land in Tennessee prior to it becoming a state. He was born on Dec. 25, 1917 in a log cabin that is to be reconstructed on The John Sevier Homestead. He joined his mother, Cora , at the dedication of The John Sevier Plantation in 1926 and he was the only person from the original dedication to attend the re-dedication in 1998. Mr. Blazier was preceded in death by his parents, Cora French and William M. Blazier and his sister, Helen Houser. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Mabry Blazier; sons and daughters-in-law, James II and Deborah Blazier of Knoxville and Stephen and Linda Blazier of Piscataway, New Jersey; grandchildren, James Blazier, III (Jamie) of Knoxville, Karen and Anna Blazier of Piscataway, New Jersey; brothers, David Blazier and wife, Georgia of Knoxville, Kenneth Blazier and wife, Carolyn of Jasper, Georgia; sisters, Irene Burchell and Reba Ivens of Knoxville, Geneva Jennings and Wilma Johnson of Powell, Stella Myers of Brentwood; brother-in-law, Joe Houser of Maryville. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews and a special friend, Luke Wilkerson. Family will receive friends Thurs. 6-8 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Rev. Mitchell Mundy and Rev. Howard Fields officiating. Family and friends will meet at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a 10:00 a.m. Fri. interment service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Grace Community Church, P.O. Box 5338, Knoxville, TN 37928 or Covenant Home Care Hospice, 9000 Executive Park Drive, Knoxville, TN 37923. Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy., in charge.
