Msgt. Lawrence Ray Smyre, age 75 of Seymour passed away peacefully at home Monday, October 08, 2007. He was a 20-year veteran of the USAF. He served in Vietnam part of the “Poney Express” a helicopter mechanic who kept our men flying, at Udorn airbase. He was of Methodist faith, saved at age 16. Retired from Knox Air as an airplane mechanic. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Preceded in death by his father Charles Orin Smyre, mother Zella McDaniel Smyre. Wife of 48 years June Hatcher Smyre. Son-in-law Carl Coatney Jr.; brothers Charles “Bud” Smyre, Curtis Smyre and sister Thelma Queens. Survived by son Larry Smyre of Seymour. Daughters and son-in-law Lisa Coatney and Wes Moore of Knoxville, Lori and Mark Burnett of Louisville; grandchildren Renee’, Keri and Kasey Coatney, Jonathan Smyre, and Jora Burnett. Great grandson Banner Brown. Sisters and brother-in-law, Maxine Taliaferro, Katherine and David Cowden. Several nieces and nephews. Special nephew, like his little brother Wayne Spurling of Colorado. Visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Highland South Memorial Park Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. Interment services will be private.
