GIBSON , OTHA A. "HOOT" JR. age 85, of Knoxville, Tennessee died Wednesday, March 14, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. Otha was born on November 13, 1921, the eldest son of eight children of Otha A. Gibson , Sr. and Dannie Estell Webb Gibson . The " Gibson " family lived in Maryville, Tennessee off Sevierville Road. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Reed Gibson , also of Maryville; his children, Otha A. "Gibby" Gibson , III and Dannie Jean Gibson Manning; his step-son, Timothy Archer; and eight grand and step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Willodene Mills and brothers, James C. Gibson and William J. Gibson . In addition to his parents, Otha was preceded in death by: his brother, Daniel Clay Gibson , and by his sisters, Helen Gibson Kerr, Margaret Gibson Young and Juanita Gibson Gerber. Otha graduated from Maryville High School and soon after served in World War II in the Pacific Rim as a gunner on a B-29 bomber out of Guam. He was proud of his service to his country. After returning from service, he joined with his father, Otha , Sr., in the business of Maryville Wholesale Grocery Company. He was a community spirited person and enjoyed his service to the Maryville Community and surrounding counties through his business relationships with his customers and through his many years of involvement with the Maryville-Alcoa Jaycees. He also loved hunting, fishing and camping in the mountains and lakes and made many memories for his children, nieces and nephews with summer camping and fishing trips, especially to Santeelah, his Dad's favorite lake. He has served as an advanced planner, sales consultant, and trainer in the cemetery and mausoleum business with his last affiliation being with Lynnhurst/ Greenwood in Knoxville, TN . He found so much satisfaction in assisting his clients that he did not fully retire until 83 years of age, and in such time had become a "father figure" to his peers. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday March 17 with the family receiving friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. The chapel is located at 2300 W. Adair Drive, off Broadway, in N. Knoxville. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in Hoot Gibson 's honor to: St. Mary's Hospice Program, 7447 Andersonville Pk. Knoxville, TN 37938.
