Toliver H. Thomas, age 84, of White Pine, passed away Friday, June 16, 2000, at Jefferson County Nursing Home in Dandridge.
He was a native of Jefferson County, lived and worked in Cocke County for several years and then moved to Oak Ridge. Here he was employed at C.A.R.L. (formerly U.T.A.E.C. Experiment Station.) He retired after 33 years of service as Senior Animal Research Technician.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of White Pine.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vevette Ratcliff Thomas, the mother of Toliver R. and Richard Thomas. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Toliver B. and Josephine Dotson Thomas; his sisters and brothers, Elizabeth, Mary Lou, and Willie Mae Thomas, Lillie Henry, Ina Freshour, Walter, Allen, Murray, George, Burnett, Robert, and a infant brother, Billie Joe.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marion Ponder Thomas, of White Pine; son, David G. Thomas, of Knoxville; sons and daughters-in-law, Toliver r. and Anita Thomas, of New Mexico and Richard A. and Suzanne Thomas, of Kentucky; grandsons, Allen, Clay, and Kurt Thomas. Also surviving are several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews and friends whom he greatly loved.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 19, from the First Baptist Church of White Pine with Rev. Kenneth Richey officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery in Newport.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. Those who prefer to make memorials in lieu of flowers may do so to the Jefferson County Nursing Home, 914 Industrial Park Rd., Dandridge, TN. 37725.
Farrars of White Pine is in charge of arrangements.
