HARTFORD-"His mission has always been to help others," said Rev. Jimmy Daniels on Sunday, as he joined other pastors, church members, family, and friends in celebrating Rev. Ransom Hall's completion of 50 years in the ministry.
Daniels, who described himself as "the son Ransom and Grace never had," credited Hall with helping him in countless ways during his own years as a minister.
"One of the first things he told me," said Daniels, "was 'Be what you are all the time, not just on weekends, but seven days a week.' I've tried to remember that and follow that in my own ministry."
"He also told me, "Break up your fallow ground. I've never forgotten that advice."
Daniels added, "We've literally worked in the fields together," a reference to sharing work on their farms. "Once we were taking up tobacco on his farm and went to his house for lunch. Grace had just baked two butterscotch pies. He ate one and I ate the other one, not knowing she'd made them to take to someone else."
