Gertrude Estelle Ridenour, age 91, died peacefully at Franciscan Hospice House on 8/29/07. She was born in Tacoma to Paul and Candace Herrin and has lived here her entire life. Gertrude graduated from Stadium High School in 1933. She worked at People’s Store and for the City of Tacoma as a bookkeeper before having children. Gertrude was a loving “old fashioned” homemaker- sewed clothes for her children, made doll clothes, baked bread, canned fruits and vegetables, made the best apple sauce and grape juice ever and was involved in her children’s activities. She volunteered in the churches that she belonged to over the years- Epworth Methodist Church and First Christian Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and has been involved in women groups in both of the churches. Gertrude always wanted to help others. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul; children Sally, Steve and Sue (Ken). She adored her eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Bleu (Ginger), Brooke (Matt), Shannel, Candace, Stacie, Mike, Matthew, Jansen, Brogan and Grady. She is also survived by several cousins. A celebration service will be held at First Christian Church, 602 N. Orchard on Sat. September 8 at 1pm. Private graveside services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent.
