Knoxville police this morning said alcohol, speed and failure to use a seat belt were factors in a Friday night crash that killed a Knoxville man.
William Andrew Turner, 41, died in the 10:45 p.m. crash on Pellissippi Parkway, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
Turner was traveling east near the Northshore Drive interchange when the 2007 Mazda RX8 he was driving passed another vehicle and then slammed into the concrete median wall, police said. The Mazda then struck the second vehicle.
Police said the impact threw Turner from the Mazda. A seat belt, DeBusk said, may have saved Turner’s life.
DeBusk said police determined “alcohol and speed played a part in this crash.”
Police said the occupants of the second vehicle were not injured.
More details as they develop online and in Wednesday’s News Sentinel.
