The couple were married Aug. 31, 1957, in Jacksonville, Fla. Their family includes sons David and wife Cindy Cherry and John and wife Melanie Cherry. Their grandchildren are Samantha, Stephen, Michael and Alexandra. Dr. Cherry is a retired chief master sergeant with the Tennessee Air National Guard. He obtained his doctorate in education from the University of Tennessee in 1981. Mrs. Cherry is retired from Maryville College, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in 1991.
