Dr. Charles 'Chuck' Kisabeth dies in boating accident
CHARLESTON, S.C.-A former Cocke County resident has died as the result of a boating accident Sunday in South Carolina.
Dr. Charles "Chuck" Kisabeth, 61, reportedly drowned in the Stono River near Charleston Sunday evening after the boat he was in capsized, according to family members.
The victim's brother Craig Kisabeth, who was en route to South Carolina on Monday, said that he doesn't know all of the details of the accident.
"He and his son-in-law had gone out on the boat and it capsized," said Craig Kisabeth. "The son-in-law tried to search for him but finally had to swim to shore. He notified the authorities and they were able to find the body after about an hour of searching."
Craig Kisabeth said his brother graduated from Cocke County High School in 1968 and then attended Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering.
While in high school, he was active in both sports, as a member of the CCHS football team, and in the band as a trumpet player.
"Later in his career he decided to go to medical school at the College of Charleston and became a pediatrician," said Craig Kisabeth. "He probably had been a pediatrician for about 20 years."
