Finger celebrates 80th birthday
Reba Guider Finger, of Friendsville, is celebrating her 80th birthday at a reception to be held from 4 to 6 p.m. May 12 at Unitia Holiness Church fellowship hall.
She was born May 13, 1932 in Knox County to the late Joe Payton and Ada Johnson Guider Endsley. She was married to the late Ben Finger for 54 years.
Her family includes daughters Connie and Cliff Marcev, of Richmond, Va., Janie and Dexter Harvey, of Kingsport, Sheila and Rocky Anderson, of Greenback and son Mark Finger, of Friendsville. She has eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Finger was employed at Blount Memorial Hospital from 1951-1954. She has been a member of Unitia Holiness Church since she was a young girl. She enjoys gardening, oil painting, nurturing and ministering to family and friends.
Mrs. Finger graduated from Greenback High School in 1951. She invites family and friends to her birthday celebration and requests no gifts.

Reba Lee Guider Finger of Friendsville, died at her home early morning Monday January 5th, 2015 with her family surrounding her with their love as they celebrated her release from bladder cancer. For her, her victory was in the completion of her course, the keeping of her faith, and the transition from being in the presence of her family to being with Her Lord and Savior. "To be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord."
She was born on Mother's Day, May 13, 1932, to Joe Payton and Necy Ada Johnson Guider, in Knox County the 2nd of 7 children. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Ben Finger; by her parents; step father, Richard Endsley; brother Charles Guider and wife Joyce; brother-in-laws, Edward Gregory, Reece Lynn; sister-in-law Jean Guider; brother and sister-in-laws, Gordon and Mary Finger, Daisy and Raymond Graves; Burl Finger; Max and Mary Etta Finger. She is survived by her children; daughters and sons-in-laws, Connie and Cliff Marcev of Richmond, VA; Janie and Dexter Harvey of Kingsport, TN; Sheila and Rocky Anderson of Greenback; and son Mark Finger of Friendsville; eight grandchildren, Jessica and Katie Marcev, Deryk and Shane (Heather) Harvey, Alex (Jessica) and Billy (Keisha) Anderson, Leah and Jake Finger: great grandchildren, Dylen Harvey, Maison and Jolan Harvey, Emma and Ben Anderson, and Tate and Tucker Anderson; Brothers; Ralph Guider and wife, Pat , Jimmy Guider and wife, Mary Ruth: Sisters Edith Gregory Lynn, Phyllis Masingo and husband Jerry, and Mary Jo Woods and husband Dickie. Sister-in-law Maude Bivens and husband Elden and sister-in-law Agnes Finger; several dear cousins, nieces and nephews, and her Unitia Holiness Church Family. Reba Finger was of a caring, nurturing nature; generous, kind, and a disciplined worker. She helped her mother at home with chores and with the younger children, and worked in the fields. After graduation from Greenback High School in 1951, she began working at Blount Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant. It was there that she met her husband Ben when he was having his tonsils removed. They forged a loving home for their children which she worked hard to maintain. She ministered to her family and to her community in many ways. She was a witness of God's love and mercy to all. She loved the piano, took art classes and displayed many of her paintings in her home. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes for herself and her children, enjoyed gardening, canning, and sharing them with her church. For many years Reba served her church by ordering flowers from Coulter's for various occasions for the church members. Reba was especially close to her brothers and sisters and they all showed their love of her during her illness. She and her sister Edith were especially close. They were often mistaken for each other by others. Edith helped her laugh. Reba bravely dealt with her cancer and daily showed great determination and great faith. She continued to care about having her hair fixed weekly at Linda's. She went to church as often as she could. Many friends and all of her family encouraged and helped her. The family extends their thanks to all, and to Dr. Mark Green and staff, Dr. Schrock and Dr. Petty and their staffs. And to the caring services of Blount Memorial Hospice Group. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 9, 2015 at Unitia Cemetery.
