Martha Spivey Coulter of San Jose, Calif., died unexpectedly on Monday, December 13, 2010, at the age of 66. Formerly a resident of Maryville, Tenn., and a graduate of Everett High School, she is survived by her husband of 48 years, Adrian Coulter; and daughter, Sanna Torres (husband, Nestor Torres), of San Jose, Calif. Born March 18, 1944, in Fontana, N.C., she graduated from San Jose State University, and also attended the University of North Dakota, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. Martha is also survived by four grandchildren, Bryson Coulter, Briana Lea Coulter, Enrique Torres, and Esteban Torres, all of San Jose, Calif. Other survivors are three sisters, Nan Spalding (husband, James (Bud) Spalding) and Paula Hennessy of Louisville, Ky., and Marion McCarrell of Maryville. Martha left behind her constant cat companions, C.J., Samson and Money. Martha was a specialist in worker’s compensation for both National Semiconductor and Seagate Technology, retiring in 2007. A celebration of Martha’s life, remembering her full, rich and happy life, will be held in San Jose, Calif, at a January date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are requested.
