Sevier County 4-H Members recently participated in Regional and Sub-Regional 4-H Public Speaking Events in Knoxville and Grainger County.
These events were held to give grade level county winners the opportunity to compete at the next level.
Thirty-three county winners at the high school level competed in regional competition at The University of Tennessee Knoxville.
Sevier County was represented by Hunter Greene, 9th grade level and Tiffany Baisden at the 10th grade level.
Both Hunter and Tiffany are members of the Sevier County Homeschool 4-H Club.
At the Regional level, senior high participants are judged on a prepared speech counting 75% of the score and an extemporaneous speech counting 25%.
In overall placing, Tiffany placed 2nd at the 10th grade level while Hunter placed 7th.
Tiffany placed first in the extemporaneous portion of the contest.
Fourth through 8th grade county winners competed at the Big Nine Sub-Regional Speaking Contest in Grainger County.
Sevier County was represented by Skyler McAllister, Pigeon Forge Primary School – 4th grade level; Tyler Bohanan, Pigeon Forge Middle School – 5th grade level; Trey Ogle, Seymour Middle School – 6th grade level; Mary McBride, Seymour Middle School – 7th grade level; and Lizette Aparicio, Pigeon Forge Middle – 8th grade level.
Overall results included first place finishes by Skylar McAllister, 4th grade and Tyler Bohanan, 5th grade.
Trey Ogle placed 3rd in the 6th grade competition.
The Big Nine Sub-Region includes the following counties: Blount, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Knox, Sevier and Union County.
The 4-H Speech Contest gives young people the opportunity to develop valuable public speaking life skills.
