Charles Holland Bryant, 88, of Newport, passed away Sunday morning, April 4, at his residence in Newport. He was a member of Big Pigeon Primitive Baptist Church. Charles had worked at the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company for 32 years before his retirement in 1973. Charles was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Bryant; and two grandsons, Eric Bryant and Ben James. Charles is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clora (Allen) Bryant of Newport; one daughter, Letha Bryant of Newport; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Nancy Bryant, Newport, and Eldridge and Ellie Bryant of Morristown; one sister, Addie Champion, Somerville, Alabama; grandchildren, Amy Moore, Dandridge, Susan Bryant, Newport, Jenny Lynn Bryant, Mosheim, and Kendall, Kerri and Bryan Bryant, all of Morristown, Ann Webb, Newport, and Dustin Fine, Newport; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Imogene Webb; and son-in-law, Darius Webb, Newport. The funeral service was 8 p.m. Monday at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Boggan, Elder Zenith Whaley and Truman Carey officiating. The graveside service was held Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
