Violet Cooper Smith, age 85, passed away at home on Thursday, December 22, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.
Violet was preceded in death by infant daughter, Rebecca Jean, husband, Elijah Gaines Smith, 2 sisters, Hazel and Mertice, and her parents, James Thomas and Zella Roberts Cooper.
She is survived by son James Kerry (Jim) Smith and his wife Carla, daughter Jill Smith Fox and her husband Joe, grandchildren J. T. Smith and wife Jennifer, Jennifer Lynn Smith, Samuel Fox and wife Kristie, and Kerri Fox Banks and husband Shawn, Kristin Kendall and Wesley Kendall.
Violet was lovingly called Mammy by her 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Parker Smith, Blair Thompson, Austin, Elijah, Maggie, Grady and Mollie Fox, and Cooper Gaines Banks.
The family wishes to thank Drs. David Rankin, Bruce Henschen, Greg Phelps and UT Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broadway United Methodist Church, Brown Food Pantry, 309 E. Broadway Avenue, Maryville, TN 37804.
Family and friends will meet 9:45 am Saturday at Mt. Herman United Methodist Church Cemetery, 235 E. Copeland Road, Powell, TN for 10:00 am graveside service with Rev. Amy Probst officiating. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 pm Friday, December 23, 2011 at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, 4131 E. Emory Road, Knoxville, TN.
