JOHNSON CITY - Ronald Anthony Bridges, 65, of Snapp Bridge Road, Limestone, formerly of Halls, died Wednesday at the Johnson City Medical Center.
His family stated, "He has entered into his new home."
Mr. Bridges graduated in 1962 from Tennessee School for the Blind.
He was captain of the wrestling team and was a State champion.
Mr. Bridges was a trumpet player for the "Dixieland Band." All proceeds from their traveling were donated back to the Tennessee School for the Blind.
He had traveled Europe for three years at the NCO (Non-Commissioned Officers) Clubs as a professional drummer performing with Charlie Pride, "Little" Jimmy Dickens, Carl Perkins, Billy Walker, The Lovan Brothers, Ernie Ashworth and numerous others.
After his return to the U.S., Mr. Bridges worked at Tupperware, Inc., for 23 years until his retirement in 1994.
His family noted, "His hobbies included target shooting, sharpening, listening to music, drums, and daily Bible study. He always wanted to learn something new.
"He had a gun permit.
"He had boundless knowledge of World War II events.
"He shared his love of drums with his 'special granddaughter,' Whitney Marshall, and his son, Dean Crum.
"He was a member of the Limestone Church of Christ and loved to study the Bible and share the 'Word.'"
Survivors include his wife, of 25 years and his childhood sweetheart: Opal Bridges; a daughter: Rhonda Marshall of Limestone; a son-in-law: Buddy Marshall of Limestone; two sons: Dean Crum and his wife, Angie, of Greeneville, and Shawn Crum and his wife, Tracey, of Halls; his grandchildren: Whitney Marshall and Zakery Marshall, both of Limestone, Brandon Crum and Ashley Crum, both of Greeneville, and Emily Crum and Allyson Crum, both of Halls; one brother and sister-in-law: Kenneth and Glendeen Bridges of Halls; one niece and her husband: Lucinda and Michael Long of Halls; one nephew and his wife: Bryan and Gina Bridges of Halls; his great-nieces: Loran Bridges and Madison Johnson, and his great-nephew: Briar Bridges, all of Halls; and several "very close" brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, P.B. and Flossie Bridges.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home 2001 Oakland Ave. in Johnson City.
The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 o'clock in the North Chapel of the funeral home. Terry Taylor, minister, will officiate.
A committal service will be held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon in Huskey Grove Family Cemetery in Pigeon Forge.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Crum, Zakery Marshall, Bryan Bridges, Buddy Marshall, and his brothers-in-law: Charles Cardwell, Michael Long, Gary Cole, and Joe Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Brewer, Hargus Robbins, Oather Hendon, James Brewer, Jack Davis, Danny Hollis, Charles Moore, Clifford Wilson, Marion Womack, J.T. Miller, Joe Brandon, Don Cardwell, Doyle Cardwell, Clayton Cardwell, and Junior Cardwell.
Memorial contributions may be made "In loving memory of his mother, Flossie Bridges" to the Alzheimer Association, 207 N. Boone St., Johnson City, TN 37604.
