Evelyn Jenkins, age 73, of Newport, passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, at Newport Health and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Detroit Gasket of Newport. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vete and Marie Wood Burnett; sister-in-law, Sherline Burnett; niece, Lynn Burnett, of Alcoa. She is survived by her husband, Clayton Jenkins, of Newport; brothers, Lloyd Burnett and wife Kay, of Alcoa, and Bobby Burnett, of Newport; nephews, Barry Burnett and wife Rachel, of Jefferson City; Stan Burnett, of Alcoa; Tim Burnett and wife Courtney, of Jackson, Tenn.; great nephew, Christopher Lee Burnett, of Jefferson City; great nieces, Elizabeth Sherline Burnett, of Jefferson City, Chloe and Camille Burnett, of Jackson, Tenn.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Tortdrice, of Chicago; Eula and husband Robert Watson, of Newport; Jeanette and Jack Holbrook, of Sevierville; Jeanella and Wayne Ball, of Sevierville; Jenita and husband Lem Garver, of Cosby; Lonas and wife Eleanor Jenkins, of Cosby; Tommy Jenkins, of Cosby; Jackie, of Newport. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2007, with funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Suggs and the Rev. Fred Cagle officiating. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery. A special thanks to Doug Ottinger and staff at Newport Health and Rehab Center as well as Smoky Mountain Hospice for their services and excellent loving care. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
