Man dies after car hits tree, catches fire
By Jessica Stith
of The Daily Times Staff
A 23-year-old Sevierville man died after his car struck a tree and caught fire early Saturday morning.
Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy Sam Tucker was first to spot the accident on Sevierville Road on his way into work shortly before 5:30 a.m. Marian O’Briant, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, said Tucker was unable to get the man out of the burning car but immediately called for help.
According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol accident report, Roger Tadlock, 23, Sevierville, died as a result of the accident.
Tadlock was driving his 1997 Ford Escort south on Sevierville Road near Temple Road, and it was “extremely foggy,” the report said. THP Trooper Wade Williams reported that Tadlock entered a “left-hand curve” and began to brake.
Tadlock’s car struck a guard rail on the right side of the road and then traveled about 30 feet, Williams reported. The car then went off the left side of the road, traveled through a yard and struck a fence.
Williams reported that the car continued to travel about 200 feet and struck a tree. The vehicle then became lodged in between two trees and caught fire, the report said.
The Blount County Fire Department responded to the scene with three trucks and five firefighters. Blount County Fire Chief Doug McClanahan said the car was engulfed in flames upon their arrival at 5:27 a.m.
The firefighters had the fire extinguished at 5:38 a.m., and they assisted in removing the body from the vehicle. The body was taken by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to Blount Memorial Hospital.
Blount County Sheriff’s deputies blocked off Sevierville Road for a couple of hours from Doc Norton Road to Temple Road, O’Briant said.
This was the eleventh traffic fatality in Blount County this year.

Sevierville man dies in fiery crash
By NEWS SENTINEL STAFF
June 9, 2007
MARYVILLE -- A fiery crash killed a Sevierville man early this morning, authorities said.
Roger Tadlock, 23, was driving south on Sevierville Road near the corner of Temple Drive around 5:40 a.m. in thick fog, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
He hit his brakes on a curve and apparently lost control of his 1997 Ford Escort, according to the THP. The car hit a guardrail and ran off the road, then traveled 50 feet through a yard and crashed through a fence into a field.
The car kept going another 200 feet, hit a tree and lodged between two trees, where it caught fire, authorities said.
It wasn't immediately clear whether Tadlock wore a seatbelt.
