Dillard “Stewart” Owenby, Jr., a lifelong resident of Cleveland passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in a Chattanooga hospital.
He was a recent retiree from Ringgold High School in Catoosa County, GA where he taught for 30 years. During his tenure there, he taught all types of sciences from biology to chemistry. He had many hobbies and fascinations that enriched his life. He was very active, swimming and biking nearly every day throughout the summer. He was known by friends as an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed spelunking, rock climbing, and hiking and was an enthusiastic rock hound. He spent his spare time landscaping and pursuing interests in carpentry and photography.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dillard Stewart Owenby, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patsy Owenby; son, Chris Owenby; grandson, Adam Owenby; and mother, Annie Owenby all of Cleveland; sisters: Judy Phillips, Vickie Ogle, Flossie Bettis all of Cleveland and Ina Sue Anderson of Morrow, GA; brothers, Dewey Owenby and Ray Owenby both of Cleveland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Friday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. A private interment will be held Saturday.
His family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
