Sarah Margaret Flynn Livingston of Maryville, born August 12, 1924, died Monday, July 24, 2006 at Colonial Hills Nursing Home following a long illness. Sarah, daughter of Sampson and Bonnie Flynn, was raised in W. Miller's Cove in Walland and graduated from Walland High School. She attended Knoxville Business College and worked many years for Blount Electric and the City of Alcoa Police Department. Sarah and her former husband, Hugh Livingston, Sr., moved from Walland to Alcoa and began a family. She loved the mountains and spent endless hours walking and hiking the nature trails of the Smokies. She was especially proud when she completed the arduous hike to Mt. LeConte. Sarah loved music, especially Lawrence Welk and Fred Waring, and instilled her love of big band music in her two sons. She sang with the Sweet Adeline's, a women's choral group, while living in Knoxville. When she was older, she learned to snow ski. Sarah loved her grandchildren and especially loved to plan special activities with them during the Christmas season. She took them to see the Nutcracker and Holiday on Ice. She learned to cross-stitch so she could create stockings and unique ornaments for her grandchildren to hang on the tree. She is preceded in death by her sister, Dee Flynn Mabes of Georgia; a baby brother-Sampson Flynn, Jr., and her mother and daddy, Bonnie and Sampson Flynn. She leaves behind to mourn her passing, son Hugh Livingston, Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Janice Livingston; granddaughter and husband, Laura Noelle Livingston Marsh and Steve Marsh; grandson and wife, Joshua Christian and Lesley Roberson Livingston; grandson and fiancÉe, Daniel Benjamin Livingston and Kristal Shipwash;, grandson, Caleb Samson Livingston; great-grandson, Nathaniel "Nate" Cole Marsh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise Flynn Lawson of Maryville, Vonnie Flynn Walker and Jack Walker, Velda Flynn Powell and Marshall Powell -- all of Walland, and Ed Mabes of Georgia; many dear nieces and nephews; a devoted former daughter-in-law, Susan Barrett Clark Mull; and special caregiver and friend, Debbie Neeley. Sarah shared a special closeness with high school and long time friends, too numerous to list. At her request, Sarah insisted that there be no services. She has asked that her family scatter her ashes in her beloved East Tennessee mountains. On the evening before her passing, she was heard singing, "Sweet Sweet Spirit." The family finds comfort in the music that guided her spirit as she crossed over to eternal life with Jesus Christ, her Savior. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
