GATLINBURG - A Friday morning construction accident at Westgate Resort just off the Spur killed a Sevierville man working for a local contractor.
Travis Joe Williamson, 28, was killed when the forklift he was operating apparently flipped over, pinning him underneath, officials said. Williamson was working at a site just above the resort for C. Laney & Sons Construction, which is headquartered in Sevierville.
The Gatlinburg Police and Fire departments responded to a call received about 9:40 a.m. Friday regarding the incident, but were unable to save Williamson's life, officials said.
According to a Police Department spokesman, a representative from the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration was on the scene by Friday afternoon, working with the police department to investigate the incident.
No further information on the accident was made available at press time. Calls late Friday afternoon to C. Laney & Sons Construction Co. went unanswered.
"Mr. Laney wishes to express that his thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Williamson's family," the Police Department spokesman said.
