Edward C. “Ed” Turner, age 71, of Newport, passed away, Monday, May 14, 2007 at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He was the former owner of Turner’s Body Shop, Newport Speedway and Volunteer Speedway. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Edna Cline Turner. He is survived by his son, Mitchell L. Turner of Parrottsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Gayla and Guy Hommel, Jr., of Parrottsville, Vickie and Terry Mason of Newport; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jack Suggs of Newport; grandchildren, Duayne Hommel, Marissa Hommel, Kari Padgett and Will Padgett; great grandson, Daegan Hommel; two special cousins, Lori Ann Bryant and Linda Ayers; also a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, May 17, 2007 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Reed officiating, burial will follow in Bruners Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery; pallbearers will be, Tommy Cloud, Donnie Padgett, Carroll Wise, Darius Webb, J. C. Jackson and Jody Evans; honorary pallbearers will be his friends of the Racing Community. The family will receive friends from 5-9 pm Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Manes Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Duayne Hommel Medical Fund % National Bank of Tennessee, P. O. Box 669, Newport, TN., 37822, Bruners Grove United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice.
