Carl T. Smith, age 71 of Elk Twp. died on October 28, 2008. He was a graduate of Glassboro High School in 1956. He graduated from Glassboro State College in 1960 where he also received his Master's Degree in 1968. He retired 10 years ago after 38 years with Gloucester Twp. School System as a teacher, guidance counselor and supervisor of Glen Landing Middle School in Blackwood. During the summer, he worked for the A&P in Woodbury and was a public service bus driver.
Carl served on the Elk Twp. School Board (1972-1982) and was President for three years, the Elk Twp. Committee (1991-1993) and Elk Twp. Municipal and Utilities Authority. He was a member of the Republican Club of Elk Twp. And the First Presbyterian Church of Clayton. Along with spending time with his family, he enjoyed fishing, boating, model trains and farming.
He is survived by his wife Vonnie L. (nee Adair), sons Martin of Glassboro, Randall (Denise) of Pitman, Andrew of Tallahassee, FL, Glen (Kim) of Monroeville, mother Maxine Smith of Pitman, sister Marian (John) Craig of Thorofare, and grandchildren Ryan Myers and Yasmin and Owen Smith.
Friends may call on Sunday 6-8pm and Monday 10-11am in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service will be Monday at 11am. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assn, 1060 N. King's Hwy, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
