Dunkin, born in Big Stone Gap, VA and a native of Bristol, VA, was 87 years old when she passed away to join her Heavenly Father, Friday, 19 December 2008, at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C. Mrs. Dunkin was the widow of Robert “Bob” S. Dunkin, Jr. whom she met while attending Nursing School at Knoxville General Hospital. They married in 1943 and initially lived in Knoxville, TN where she worked in Knoxville General Hospital’s pediatrics and developed her passion for University of Tennessee sports. She and her husband relocated to Bristol, VA in November, 1956 where she lived until her care mandated that she move to Tall Timbers, MD in August 2006. In Bristol, she worked in Bristol Memorial Hospital pediatrics until the death of her husband in 1962 after which she became the campus nurse for King College until her retirement in 1991. While there, she completed a BS degree in Psychology in 1971. “Bea” had a strong love for her family, friends and the people of Bristol; no one who visited ever left her table hungry. A devoted wife and mother, she lovingly raised and supported two boys witnessing every school, athletic, and life event. Further, she had an extended family centered on the faculty, staff and students of King College and the congregation of State Street United Methodist Church all of whom she dearly loved. Mrs. Dunkin’s passage was preceded by her husband, Robert “Bob” S. Dunkin, Jr.; her son, Robert S. Dunkin, III and daughter Marian Sue Dunkin; parents, Mack Minor and Myrtle Robinette Minor; and three brothers, Arthur, Hershel and Troy Minor. She is survived by her son William M. Dunkin of Tall Timbers, MD; her sister Joyce Boggs of Bristol; brothers Joe Minor of Bristol and Don Minor of Owensboro, KY; and four grandchildren Patrick, Kimberly, Richard and Will Dunkin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
