Rex Eugene Eggers, age 83 passed away at his home, April 27, 2007. He was born the son of Roscoe and Evadell (Leatherwood) Eggers. He was a pilot in the Air Force during World War II and made the Air Force his career. During those years, he held several positions of duty. After retiring from the Air Force, he had a career with the Federal Aviation Agency as a Air Traffic Control Specialist. Following his second retirement, he returned to Blount Co. where he lived his last 18 years. Among his activities, he renovated an old farm house that is on the National Historical Register. Rex was an interesting and knowledgeable man, who loved his country, his family, and, above all, he loved the Lord. He was preceded in death by daughter, Debra McAfee; grandson, David Simpson; son-in-law, Mark Sigman; sister, Edna Hale; brothers, R.C. Eggers and Kenneth Eggers and baby brothers, James & Lloyd. He is survived by wife of 62 years, Joy (Merrill) Eggers; children, Bonnie Sigman, Houston, TX, Carol (Kelly) Thompson, Utah, Dennis Eggers, Nashville, Carl (Linda) Eggers, Talbott, TN; sister, Ruth Carroll; sister-in-law Marjorie Eggers; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grands; nieces and nephews. A military memorial service will be held on June 15th at 11 a.m. in Magnolia Cemetery. The body was cremated. Contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice, Blount Memorial Hospital.
