COSBY-A late morning fire on Wednesday forced a Greasy Cove Road family into the cold, but others in the family are going to provide a temporary home.
Cosby Volunteer Fire Department and Cocke County Fire Department firefighters and three engines responded to the 10:30 a.m. blaze located just off Greasy Cove Road and not far from Cosby High School.
Elmer Shults was standing along a gravel road leading to his frame home that was engulfed in flames and smoke shortly after 11 a.m. He said the fire started on the second floor, and the family was alerted by a young man living with them.
Derrick Shults was the first to notice the fire, whose cause is not yet known, and he warned the family that left the home before firefighters arrived. The Cosby fire hall is only about a quarter mile from the Shults property.
