Boyd L. Helton Jr. age 85 of Maryville, TN passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 21, 2013. He was born in Maryville and attended Maryville High School until age 17. He then volunteered to serve during World War II in the United States Navy in the South Pacific. Boyd was saved and baptized at an early age and was of the Baptist faith. He worked many years for Lamberts Construction Company but retired from McGhee Tyson Air Force Base in maintenance operations. After retirement he enjoyed walking Eagleton Village ballpark walking trails and the Maryville Greenbelt. He enjoyed watching Tennessee Volunteer sports with his family. Preceded in death by: Parents, Boyd & Dicie Helton, Sr.; wife of 58 years, Madge; Son, Don; Daughter-in-law, Shelia; Brother, J.D. Helton of Indiana. Survivors include: Brother & Sister-in-law, Howard & Phyllis Helton of Norris; Daughters & Sons-in-law, Gail & J.N. Tyler, Sandy & Mike Payne, Kim & Mike Poling; Daughter, Donna Helton Lee; Grandchildren, Jill & Brian Cusack, Darrell & Christine Foreman, Angela & Brad Powell, Kelly Tyler, Jeremy Helton & Vanessa Collins, Jason Payne, Jessica & Jesse Tipton, Shelby Poling, and Kori Lee; also survived by Eight Great-Grandchildren. The family would like to extend their gratefulness to Dr. Spence McCachren and staff for their wonderful care during his illness. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Smith West Chapel with Rev. Glenn Cummings officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: East Tennessee Children's Hospital, 2018 Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37916.
