His parents, John and Gladys Whitson, and a son, Gregory, preceded him in death. He is survived by: his wife, Evangelin Mayr Whitson; nine children, Michael and wife, Trisha of Oliver Springs, Debbie Patterson and husband, David of Dalton, Ga., Pat Lawson and husband, Don of Oliver Springs, Tammy of Claxton, Jimmy of Oak Ridge, Ronald and wife, Trish of Oliver Springs, Denise and Tim of Oak Ridge, Uneada and Roger of Clinton, Janice of Clinton; two stepchildren, Natalie Young of Clinton, and Julie Vargas and husband, Larry of Alabama; 16 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Whitson and wife, Peggy of Oak Ridge, Phil Whitson and wife, Janie of Dutch Valley; and four sisters, Sue and J.L. Quilliams of Oliver Springs, Joyce Jenkins of Powell, Linda Whitson and Phyllis Williams of Oak Ridge; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His former wife, Edna Brummett Davis was considered a special friend. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 28, 1999, from 6-8 p.m. with the funeral service at 8 p.m., the Rev. Hammock officiating. Interment will be at McCarty Woodhaven Cemetery, Monday, March 29, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eva Whitson, 817 Hill St., Clinton, TN 37716.
