Ben Shelton, age 101 of Newport passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Newport Health and Rehabilitation of Newport. He was a farmer by trade a member of the Church of God. Ben is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ellen Gates Shelton; wives, Iva Lee Shelton and Rachel Shelton; children, Paul, C.J., Furman, James and Gary Shelton. He is survived by his children, John and Roger Henderson, Betty Lou Norton, Frances Sutton and Stephenson of W. VA., step-children, John and Roger Henderson, Betty Lou Norton, Frances Sutton and Brenda Kay Cook all of Newport; brother, Albert Shelton of Marion, NC and niece, Marian Edgins. He will also be sadly missed by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday, April 23, 2007 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Milburn Shelton officiating. Interment will be a Stokely Cemetery in Del Rio.
