Ruth Catherine McAlister Galyon, age 89, deeply loved Mother and Nannie passed away July 24, 2013, at Lake Martin, Alabama. She was a very proud member of the 1941 graduating class of Knoxville High School. Her work experience included years with United Fund, Travelers Aid and retiring from Helen Ross McNabb Center in 1997.She will be remembered for her hospitality and giving spirit. She was a longtime member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She continued to serve the Lord at Meridian Baptist Church where she was an active participant in the Ruth Class, The Homebound Ministry, and enjoyed outings with fellow seniors. She was part of the Ladies Auxiliary at old Baptist Hospital and later Tennova. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl B. Galyon, Sr., her parents, Abe and Dimple McAlister and her beloved brother, Bud McAlister of Manchester, Tn. She is survived by son, Carl Galyon, Jr. and wife Norma; daughter, Sherry Weaver and husband Fred; her beloved brother, Donald McAlister. Grandchildren include Lisa Sims (Mike); Bryan Weaver (Juliet); Cherie Galyon; Trey Galyon and Brent Galyon. Great grandchildren include Nick and Madison Sims; Jordan and Callen Weaver. She loved all of her family which included sisters/brothers in law Mary Jane McAlister (Bud), Kathleen Young (Emzy), Lorraine Hodges (Wiley), Della Jo Hamrick (Audley), nieces and nephews, her cousins and their families. She had special friends who she loved like family. Visitation will be 1 to 2 PM, Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Meridian Baptist Church with Funeral services to follow at 2 PM. Rev. Dana Fachman officiating. Interment at Zion Hill Baptist Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meridian Baptist Church 6513 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
