J. D. Holdway, age 69, of Newport, passed away, Monday, May 26, 2008. He was a trusted friend, to all who knew him and had many special friends at Roden Electric (formerly Morristown Electric) where he worked for many years. He was an avid U. T. fan, spending many hours of special time watching the games with his grandchildren. He was also a devoted basketball and baseball fan for his grandsons, never missing their games. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett and Anna Mae Holdway; brothers, Billy Mack, Robert and Charles Holdway. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda Lovell Holdway; a loving and devoted father to his two daughters, Cheryl Ottinger, Debbie Suggs and husband Mike, all of Newport; loving papaw to his five grandchildren, Travis, Tyler, and Taylor Shults, Tristen Suggs, and Christopher Suggs; brothers, Ben Holdway and wife Jane of Cleveland, Ohio, Bud Holdway of Bybee, Jimmy Holdway, of Oak Ridge; sisters, Louise Shelton of Newport, Gladys Johnson and husband Bob of North Carolina, Flora Lee Bihari of Bedford, Ohio; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edmon and Norma Seay of Newport, Judy Lovell, of Newport, Charles and Bobbie Lovell, of Jefferson County; also many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Zane Stuart officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am Thursday, May 29, 2008 in Clay Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
