Newport pastor's son dies from crash The son of a Newport church pastor died shortly after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash early on Saturday morning in Sevierville. Rickie Edward Parton, 48, was the son of Stokely Chapel Church pastor Ed Parton, and died about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 14. According to the Sevierville Police Department Officer Eric Denton, Parton was driving a 1995 Chevrolet pickup on Smithwood Road. The truck left the pavement and struck a tree. Parton was taken to Ft. Sanders Medical Center in Sevierville where he was pronounced dead. The victim is survived by his children, Brooks, Tia, and Cody Parton; granddaughter, Landyn Berkley Hall; Parents, Rev. Ed and Helen Parton; brother, Gary Parton; and niece, Jessie Parton. The funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Edward Parton and Rev. Andy Miller officiating. Burial is set for 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
